School is boring, not-school is fun. my apartment's pretty much great. i'm going to paris for spring break! and i'm trying to find an internship in columbus for this summer. pretty much i think that's all the news that's new. the mirrors ball is feb 24th and anyone who's anyone should definitely go.

| i decided it was probably time for an update. i got back from china
about a week ago, it was fun and long. i mean, it was definitely
different from the other times i've been cause this time i was gone for
six weeks and we basically lived there and got used to one city --
changsha. i did some "working" in a bank, which basically meant that i
sat around and talked with them and taught them (and their kids)
english. pretty much wherever we went, that was our default job. we got
to hang out with lots of cousins, and i now have my entire family tree
mapped out in my head, which is kind of exciting. we had a half day
layover on the way back in san francisco, so we went to dinner at yet
another chinese restaurant with one of my parents' friends (how do you
tell a chinese person you actually for once in your life don't want
chinese food?). george (my cousin) and i also mastered the fine art of
toasting old people who once knew our parents. so, now my jetlag is
basically over, and also i am visiting columbus aug 6-aug 13 (two
thoughts that go completely perfectly together, i know), and moving
into my apt for next year on sept 11, for those that are interested in
taking me for some non-chinese food. and now for pictures from china
(some of 200):

| - what is this feelingi've decided that this title business is kind of worthless, and that it
makes xanga-writing somehwhat akin to a research paper, in that i feel
the need to formulate a title that illuminates the rest of my entry and
sounds good on its own. and so, no more. my titles will only reflect
the content of my entries and attempt to keep my rambling on track.
i went to chicago this past weekend with taylor tower, and it was lots
of fun, especially wicked! wicked was amazing, and pretty much
everything i thought it would be and more. it was super. our seats were
so far in the nosebleed section that we were in the highest of three
balconies and the directions to our section involved multiple
staircases, turns, and confusion. nonetheless, it did not matter,
wicked was still amazing. it was an experience not to be missed (it is
coming to columbus next season, 06-07). otherwise, chicago was lots of
fun, we mostly just wandered around michigan ave and shopped. but we
also put up flyers for an inner-city orchestra's concert, which was
cool, cause the orchestra is a bunch of kids from inner city chicago
who get to learn how to play instruments and orchestra music, like the
planets by holst. we went to a lot of really cool old buildings,
including one with this sweet old fashioned elevator, with an elevator
man who had to turn the handle to control the elevator. the only
downside to the trip was the 13 total hours of charter bus travel time
accompanied by terrible movies such as the fifth element (someone had
lizzie mcguire but they never played it, no matter how much i
protested!).
the night before we left for chicago, we went to a country line dance
bar and it was really really fun. even though i despise country, it is
just really fun to dance around in lines and kick your legs all over
the place and feel accomplished because by the third stanza you can
almost follow exactly along the moves. it was a workout and a blast.
there are very few things that i would go so far as to call a blast, so
that probably says something.
other than these things, college life is going well, except for all the
midterms and the reading and the class and such. it is pretty much
really crazy that our first year of college will be over in a month.
and then i'm going to china for what seems like a millenium (a month
and a half) so it's going to be crazy. this was a really long entry so
i feel that i've made up for not updating for forever and a half. ps. i bought a sprite hat!

wicked in chicago!

| it's because i dislocated my jaw. of course, this is a xanga-worthy story to tell.
it all started with an innocuous visit to the dentist. he told me i had
a cavity (obviously such a lie, i haven't had a cavity since i was like
9!) so i went in yesterday to get it filled. except he shot me up like
3 times in my gums and that was just highly unpleasant and surprising.
so he has my mouth open, he's doing his dentist-y thing, drilling,
filling, all that jazz. and when he finishes, he tells me, ok go rinse
and i'll be back in in a sec, so i go to close my jaw, and it is a no
go. so of course i start to panic and all this stupid guy can say to me
is "don't panic, just relax, i mean you're just so tense, relax" and
then my dad comes in to see what's the what, and the guy's like "she's just so tense....if she could
just relax..." well, dentist, maybe if you hadn't been shooting me up
and sticking your hands where they don't belong for god knows how long,
i would be a little more relaxed!
but anyway, so we'll skip over all the attempts to fix it there and go
straight to when we went to the ER. the people at the ER were very nice
but there were only two doctors there so we sat. and we sat. and then i
sat in a bed. and sat. and then finally they wheeled me off, with my
mouth wide open, looking like some sort of mental ward escapee/invalid,
to get poked by nice, well-meaning, incompetent nurses all over my
arms. then finally comes the morphine, which was a really odd sensation
but good. definitely good. it took two doctors to come and yank my jaw
back into place, which is why i can now say that what i did over spring
break involves morphine, the indignity of hospital gowns and the
dentist.
the end.
ps i'm not in any pain and it is funny now. so everyone should leave me comments telling me how funny my pain was. : )
